About me

I am an ecologist with interests in dispersal, population biology, evolutionary biology and environmental physiology. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher working with Dr. Arne Janssen at the Evolutionary and Population Biology Department within the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, University of Amsterdam.

I completed my undergraduate and Honours degree in Zoology at the University of Pretoria in South Africa followed by a Masters degree in Zoology at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. For my MSc I spent my time collecting data on sub-Antarctic Marion Island, where I was investigating the physiology of different mite species. Following my degree I was appointed Research Coordinator for the USAID-DEA&T Capacity Building Programme for Climate Change Research at Stellenbosch University. I then moved abroad to the UK where spent two and a half years as the Research Coordinator in the NERC Centre for Population Biology at Imperial College London before moving back into a more active research role. I worked for two years as a lab technician for Prof. Tim Coulson, also at Imperial College, before completing my PhD at the University of Oxford with Prof. Tim Coulson as my supervisor. After completing my PhD, I joined the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics within the University of Amsterdam as an independent research fellow. During my time there I was able to develop my own research project and in addition to my focus on dispersal and its individual and population level costs, I also focused on the role of dispersal in eco-evolutionary dynamics. I then returned to the University of Oxford as a postdoctoral researcher with Dr. Roberto Salguero-Gómez in the SalGo Team. During my time within the SalGo Team I focused on impact of calorie restriction (CR) on longevity and other life-history traits.
